5th Grade Percussion Ensemble
The Sunset Ridge 5th Grade Percussion Ensemble is an auditioned ensemble of approximately 20 fifth graders that rehearse on Thursday mornings from 7:30 to 8:25.
Students are taught the audition music during their regular music classes, and auditions take place in late September,
also during music class.
In order to qualify for this ensemble, students must:
Demonstrate superior mallet skills
Be able to play difficult music accurately
Be able to learn parts quickly
Be reliable and attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances
Uniform: Students will need to purchase a “Sunset Ridge Musicians” T-shirt (also worn by the choir), as well as black pants for the performances.
Yes – your 5th grader may participate in BOTH choir and percussion.
Please note: The Percussion Ensemble is a select group and therefore, not everyone will make it in, but students are still encouraged to try out. Taking risks (and auditioning is a risk) is good for all of us. Disappointment is part of taking risks (otherwise, it wouldn't be a risk at all). Please remember that all 5th graders will still be playing percussion instruments in class and in the 5th grade musical.
